Rising Sun

For a contemporary solution to shielding the Autumnal sunshine, look
to the East

In the maelstrom that is 21st century living, our homes need to be places of calm sanctuary - the antedote to our busy working lives. The clean lines and minimal furnishings in Japanese rooms can create a tranquillity and harmony that our cluttered European homes can't.

Unlike many European homes which tend to be crammed with furniture, cushions and general knickknacks, a Japanese room will look almost empty in comparison.

Over 500 years ago the Japanese used sliding panels as a way to partition rooms. They've now become a contemporary way to maximise light or retain privacy at large windows and patio doors. They're also perfect for creating distinct zones in increasingly popular open plan interiors, they conserve the space that would be taken up by a conventional door.

“Panels are right on-trend. They look stunning when closed, and when parted, the window is left completely clear to reveal the view and allow patio doors to open” says Sarah Quilliam, Head of Product Design at Hillarys Blinds.

Hillarys Blinds have long been associated with affordable up to the minute window dressing solutions, always innovating to stay at the forefront of design. Now they are introducing their new Japanese inspired panel range.

Made from panels of fabric on a sliding track, the blinds glide back and forth, controlled by a cord or ‘wand'. They can be stacked to the left, to the right or split in the centre to suit the layout of your room.

As with all Hillarys blind and shutters ranges the choice of fabrics is vast. Depending on the customers need for shade, privacy or screening there is a wealth of options available. Sheer fabrics, woven wood effects, colours, patterns and prints can compliment and enhance any interior. There are even blackout panels for bedrooms that really can block out that rising sun!

Once you have created your look, you'll want to make sure it lasts. For designs and colours that retain their vibrancy, light fastness testing ensures that Hillarys blinds stand-up to everyday sunlight. To check that the blinds stay in good working order, repeated opening and closing tests the durability of mechanisms.

Hillarys also expose materials to temperatures of 5ºC to 50ºC to ensure suitability for use in different environments throughout the home. Each blind is individually made to order and fitted by a skilled advisor to the unique measurement of your windows.

Hillarys offer a free no-obligation measuring and quotation service on all their range whether it be romans, rollers, verticals or venetians. With their new panels range, gracing your home with harmony and tranquillity from the land of the rising sun is well within your reach.
